"LWD is able to detect formation pressure while drilling, the mud is engineered to maintain a specific formation pressure, why would you continue to press on into untested formation specifically when you have these pieces of data available to you. This reeks of ambiguity and poor management."

Real time LWD resistivity cannot directly measure formation pressure. In a normally pressured sedimentary sequence compaction will increase steadily with depth...ie there is a normal compaction trend. The reduction in porosity will be reflected in a gradual increase in resistivity with depth. Any over pressure will cause a deviation from the normal compaction trend. What you're doing is using the LWD Res tool to indirectly measure compaction trends.....but it wont give you readings of formation pressure.

Note also that Res based compaction trend modeling is of most use where there is a gradual ramping up in formation pressure. If the ramp up is sudden..ie over a short distance then often you wont pick it up early on the LWD res due to the Res sensor-bit offset.

Its common to have someone doing pore pressure modeling (either in house or via a consultant). In the absence of the latter The Wellsite Geologist and Operations Geologists would at least be keeping an eye on LWD resistivity trends and along with The Mudlogging crew also monitoring other indicators of over pressure.
