At the time they were drilling the section they wouldnt have had an accurate handle on formation pressure in the Lower Angwa. They would have been responding to indications the well was getting close to balanced....eg trip and connection gas, background gas levels etc.

They drilled main bore to around 3400m before they had to bump up mud weight in current hole. The pore pressure regime will be the same in the sidetrack.
