SBM is typically applied where sensitive shales are present. The problems where the MDT tools have been damaged appear to be in coals which SBM would not likely help. I am also unsure if reducing mud weight will assist in this problem. Going vertical may assist but unsure. One thing they could also try is to reduce trip speed, which appears to be inducing gas influx and could also be inducing failure of the coals as hydrostatic pressure is reduces when POOH and increased when RIH.
