My guess would be that first and foremost Ice 2v is a purpose drilled flow test well that has specific aims for the HRZ/HUE strata rather than any specific core sampling data collection of other strata Ezstrang.

The second would be that seismic probably did not indicate any significant stratigraphic trapping/seals of the Kuparuk at this site.
So even tho there was excellent reservoir quality, all factors were not indicative of current prioritising of this interval.

But the primary reason would be the specific aim of Ice 2V as an HRZ flow testing well.

The fracking crew will have specific needs as regards the timing of analysis of wire-line/mud logging and structure of the well.

Even tho the well was drilled in good time they would always want time contingency in case there are issues that need to be allowed for during/post the micro stim phase leading to the main stimulation and flow back.

Primary of the post frack/proppant embedment fluid flowback could be the need to further physically/chemically treat the interface of the well bore with the natural permeability potential of the HRZ. Frack fluids can often create a permeability inhibiting skin and this skin needs to be chemically/mechanically treated if an issue.

Hopefully the frack fluid has been selected that will automatically chemically alter on both contact with hydrocarbons as well as physically lower viscosity on pressure/flow change. Yes frack fluids can be this application specific.

But as most would know the HRZ is a new soil chemistry to all the frack technology so there may be tweaks required, and tweaks take time. Hopefully with our 8o yo fracker the chilliness of the Slope doesnt get to him and the crew and they will be all over any such issues !!!

But getting back to the Kuparuk.

As the annmnt states, the Kuparuk appears to have excellent reservoir quality, which could lead one to hypothesise that it would be a good source rock that could migrate to any up-dip stratigraphic trapping given that it also has good permeability or, natural migration capacity.

Having good rock mechanics/chemistry doesn't necessarily make a good structural pooling reservoir Eztrang, but it can make excellent source rock.

Many of these strata have been chemically linked as sources of hydrocarbons to other North Slope conventional plays over the geologic Millenia and the many tectonic (uplift/faulting) and prograding (silt layering) changes that have taken place in this hydrocarbon generating region.
