Trading tactics aside, a good announcement means the stock intrinsic value would be higher than what it is currently priced at, hence the price should naturally be trending up to match the value, hence there would be more people wanting to buy than those selling, leading to actual higher prices. For this to happen, for a liquid stock there are normally much more people trading (continually buying and selling) than those who bought (once, twice or even thrice) and forget (e.g. sit idly and pray for the SP to rise).
