IGO has struck a long-anticipated deal with major shareholder Mark Creasy over his Silver Knight nickel discovery in the Fraser Range.

The Peter Bradford-led miner said this morning it would acquire 100 per cent of the nickel-copper-cobalt sulphide deposit and also form a 65/35 joint venture with Mr Creasy over a portfolio of exploration tenements around Silver Knight for $45 million.

Silver Knight, which lies 35km north-west of IGO’s Nova nickel mine, had always been eyed by the company as a feed source for its flagship operation given its close proximity and the existing ties with Mr Creasy.

Discovered by the Creasy Group in 2015, Silver Knight hosts a small 4.2 million tonnes mineral resource, which IGO will look to expand with further drilling.

IGO will also continue the exploration of the new joint venture tenements around Silver Knight, which it said remained prospective for Nova-style magmatic nickel-copper-cobalt sulphide deposits.

Mr Bradford said the Silver Knight discovery not only validated the potential for the Fraser Range to host multiple commercial nickel-copper sulphide deposits but also provided a secondary source of feed for the Nova processing plant.

“Our aim is to fast track the detailed assessment and permitting of Silver Knight in order to commence first pre-mining activity on the site by 2023,” he said.

IGO is scouring its ground in the Fraser Range and as well as land held in farm-in deals with junior explorers to find new ore bodies that can extend the six-year mine life of Nova.

Mr Creasy holds a 13 per cent stake in IGO owing to the 34.6 per cent stake he previously held in Nova discoverer Sirius Resources, which IGO took over in 2015 in a $1.8 billion scrip deal.

Shares in IGO were up 15¢, or 1.68 per cent, to $9.08 at 8.15am after hitting an all-time high of $9.13 in earlier trade.
