You make a potentially misleading statement.
I have held international stocks for years.

As advised by my Financial Planner
You do get taxed in the USA on dividends.
However, unless you are being taxed a lot it is not worth the money spent to have the correct set up in the USA to claim it back.
e.g. Why spend $2000 being a USA tax resident to claim back $500 or $1000
...and typical USA companies only pay dividends of about 1%
(Australian coys return a much higher percentage as dividends)

Cap gains are mostly taxed in Australia or equivalent thereof.
i.e. If the country you bought shares in does apply CGT that generally is offset in your Aussie tax CGT so you don't pay double tax.
My research suggests we will not have CGT applied on USA shares.

Importantly, for IHL I don't expect any dividends
I expect the Cap Gains to be applied in Australia.
However, if the USA do tax me I expect it will be less than the Australian CGT and I expect it to be offset in Australia.
e.g. the total CGT I pay would be the same as if IHL was still an ASX listed Coy.

Please DYOR and seek the advice of an experienced Financial Planner or Accountant.

Hey Rhino any chance to elaborate on why you don't expect dividends from IHL? curious to know your reasoning behind it
