"The other bit that doesn't make sense to me is - ""Finally, the acquisition of iiNet will also make it far more profitable for TPG to buy a mobile service provider with Vodafone Australia the most likely candidate."" I would think the argument would be about it being doable because it will be bigger coy to make such a tilt."

I'm guessing this means they'll have a bigger customer base to offer mobile, internet, TPG's own networks, individual products, etc, and, more importantly, whole complete package's. Massive customer base when you combine IIN/TPG 1.7 million subscribers plus Vodafone's 4.86 million plus any others they entice away from other Telco's. This makes a Vodafone takeover more viable, especially in the eyes of those who have to lend TPG the money to do it.

Re the NBN bit, yeah, I think what you thought he was saying is correct, but if it's a "move that would have a direct impact on the NBN's earnings" wouldn't that be a problem for Telstra not TPG and wouldn't the outcome be Telstra sharpening their pencil and offering more competitive NBN rates?

All very involved and confusing, just like pesonal phone/mobile/ISP packages, perhaps there's some knowledgeable HC'ers out there can comment.
