i have also been in for a long ten years.
When the sixth platform lot was announced, almost two years ago, it was said that it would take 9 months.
It has instead taken almost 24 months. They have left Stanford and have stopped iterating the cell.
They have gone at a snails pace to give themselves the best shot at success.
They have fabricated a 20nm cell stack successfully in PL5...which they learned from and implemented into PL6.
As such, I think it's much more than a shot in the dark at complete success. PL5 bore much of the risk.
