I got the sense from your last two posts there MJ there might be a bit of confusion about the scope of Infineon.

thought it might help to clarify the difference between the memory and the memory controller:

Crudely you could think of a RAM module inside of your computer - the green bit has all the controller stuff on it, the larger black squares or rectangles are the actual memory.... 4DS (via imec) does the black bits. The new green bit is being done by infenon.

currently the platform lots come from imec built on its "universal platform" memory controller (hence they are called platform lots). This universal platform has limitations because of how unique 4DS memory is... The "non-platform lots" from yesteryear came as memory chips on their own with no controller.

Infenon have been engaged to make a custom memory controller which replaces the universal memory controller that comes from imec. Infineon are not changing the memory cells themselves, or superseding the 20nm memory - just upgrading the memory controller. The memory chip technology when the Infineon controller is build will still be 20nm and will be built by imec.

You're right MJ that the custom controller will unlock another level of performance and enable the unique characteristics of 4DS memory to be utilised. Those characteristics will exceed what we get via PL6 (e.g. analogue programming, tuneable retention, etc.). This will be able to demonstrate much greater commercial value because the applications will be very clear (particularly for things like managed / tuneable retention, power efficiency, etc).
