The important part of the land is it been suitable. Mountains and vegetation are not ideal as it increases the cost of civil works and this adds up quickly. I see they found a relatively large flat area for there 400MW array.
Being north while helping with daylight hours the climate plays a role in determining the amount of cloud cover which typically changes the solar intensity on a yearly averaged basis, see the attached map.
Flow batteries certainly have some advantages over regular solid batteries. However, I still think we will end up using solar power to produce a transportable energy product such as Hydrogen from electrolysis of water and carbon capture to make LNG and a useful by-product of pure water. Then we can simply use existing power plants and infrastructure. Thus stopping our accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere and having minimal disruption on the current "way it is".
