shorters are not a concern over the long term. short term they can move things but not forever.
every shorter is a forced buyer. and a lot of the shorting is to do with options hedging and similar.

the argument is as bad as saying banks take a bet on hedges or are winning when the gokd price rises. or that banks are betting on rate cuts by lowering rates. these are big players that dont 'bet'.
edit to add, the paper manipulation of gold market is a lot different with being able to create more supply. not so with stocks.
