Propofol is used[among other medical situations] to sedate a patient who is under critical care and needs a mechanical ventilator (breathing machine).
Covid 19 has presented AVE with a rare ventilator opportunity to double the current propofol recommended maximum 12 hour infusion period to 24 hours.
Currently at the end of the 12 hour period the existing propofol treatment has to be stopped and any vials in use thrown out[including any associated tubing]because of possible infection risks if used any longer.
Effectively the 24 hour propofol has doubled the lifespan or halved the cost of the existing technology.At a time of global propofol shortages this could be a winning hand.
