Because the shorts have made way more money than the longs have.and as per today trading still are making more money

Be interesting to see if the short positions increase or decrease over the next few weeks.

If you took out a loan from a bank does not the bank ask you a million questions with regards to your finances and your ability to pay them back.

The bank is always seeking to limit risk and they do this very well.

so it is safe to say when dealing with banks and loans relationships in some form are formed.

This is why some may think the best time to buy would be when the loaned out shares are returned
