The webinar today could have left no doubt in anyones mind CF33 and Vaxinia are killing solid tumours in humans. Founder Yuman Fong started the presentation by outlining the effect viruses have on destroying the cancerous cells found in the worst of cancers, mesothelioma. He once again reaffirmed his belief these oncoloytic viruses shall be human therapy one day soon, in combination with multiple therapies, including but not limited to Car T’s and MAB’s.
Professor Fong accentuated the point that the intravenous method of delivering Vaxinia is currently successful in both infecting and replicating within solid tumours. That said he suggested they are keen to explore all delivery modes, including not only IV, but IT, in addition to alternate delivery modes. Hence the recent collaboration with RenovoRx, which may prove an effective mode of delivery to those difficult to penetrate and hard to reach tumours, such as those present in the belly, including the deadly pancreatic cancer. All in all it was an in depth and extensive summary of his oncolytic viruses, which promise to offer so much to those diagnosed with solid tumours, that being the overwhelming majority of people diagnosed with cancer today.
What struck me as interesting was his mention of the Vaxinia virus proving effective in treating cancers lurking deep within stem cells, nerves and ones lymphatic nodes. In other words all those locations where cancer hides and waits to resurface over time, 18 months, two years or even longer after treatment. It is worth remembering there are a few stem cells which have lost their genetic compass, or marbles as it were. Cells which are often resistant to chemo and radiotherapy, continuously supplying a malignant mass with cancerous cells. Vaxinia’s ability to treat cancer residing in these lymphocytes and unique parts of our anatomy, is truly ingenious. Another interesting point made was of Vaxinia’s ability to not only locate, infect and destroy these malignant tumours, but its inherent ability to remember them in the future, killing them once again, if and when they resurface. Not only has Professor Fong created a virus through nature to eradicate solid tumours, he has developed one with a built in memory.
Later on in the webinar some points were clarified, including the fact that the sale of Her Vaxx is definitely front and centre of Leslie Chong’s mind. She noted Imugene’s Chief of Business Monil Shah talks with big Pharma daily, so she is ultimately confident of a result. Given she has stated Her Vaxx is comparable, if not more effective and safe than Roche’s Her 2 blockbuster Herceptin, that sale could definitely reap rewards for shareholders of IMU.
Finally there was a discussion surrounding Oncarlytics, where Leslie stated the first patient dosed in their recently acquired FDA IND for the treatment arm would occur this year. Around the same time she aims on realising yet another inflection point, that being the optimal biological dosage rate for Vaxinia. Both dates represent significant milestones for Imugene, and go to dates for those seeking a definitive uplift in the IMU share price.
