I think Hegarty was bullied out of the company, the ultimate betrayal imo..
The $5.8m cash payout he received was nothing compared to the value of shares in ozl he had, worth at the time of the merger about $120m. Which would you value more?
He entrusted the company going forward in what proved to be the incompetant hands of Michelmore and Cusack.
Hegarty believed (as we all did) Michelmore would take the newly merged company to the next higher level to the benefit of all shareholders. Agreeing to this clown being in charge was his only mistake as I see it.
