Ultimately, buying back shares at the lowest price will benefit shareholders.
If the buyback were to be seen to be splashing out funds it would create an environment of easy pickings for short term traders who are just passing by.
A good accountant who holds tight control and manages funds wisely and frugally can sometimes be perceived as Scrooge like . . . while in fact they are just doing their job.
