i agree it is a bit embarrassing that they are on a third offer and have upped the value in pretty short order, i think the combined company would be a very desirable result, especially after cleaning up and selling off the businesses that don't align well with BHP.
Regarding discipline, this sort of thing doesn't just come about overnight.
One could look at The business, having sold off assets over the last decade, as a path make way for an acquisition like this.
long term planning takes discipline.
