Putin has gone on a land grab on a smaller nation. He does it often. It wasn't to deter NATO as NATO is now even more on his doorstep and he is unconcerned. NATO was never a threat to Russia and he knows it. What NATO is is a threat to his imperialistic ambitions. The man is an evil dictator who oppresses anyone he sees as weaker.
