That's why they upgraded the Leonora to kalgoorlie line in the first place... For Nickel....They upgraded from narrow to standard guage and later Re-railed to a heavier line.
leinester concentrate was carted to leonora by road, then loaded on a train to go to the kalgoorlie smelter and that only stopped because they had trouble with the mine at leinster. I don't know if it has restarted.
Also Windarra nickel was loaded at malcolm siding (25km from Leonora) and sent to the kalgoorlie smelter
So the leonora line has always been about NICKEL.... So far.
