As always, it's part luck. But my push into 3DP was driven primarily by the people involved - former members of the Nearmap team that had previously taken a tech startup to a very large market cap, which I've learnt is one of the most important ingredients to success. Other factors were the very low market cap giving it big upside potential, and the fact that they had already begun to land a few paying clients for their tech which looked like enough proof-of-concept for them to build sales on.
I guess one critical thing with that stock is to look at how long it took. The boom since buyers arrived has been very fast, but I've been buying & holding 3DP stock for maybe two years so it didn't happen quickly by any means.
