Agree with your sentiment in all but 1 spot and that is that the raise was not necessary and cost him his job.
You can only do so much against the market.
Markets are actually quite tough at the moment and rates are up (again).
Easy for us to sit here and say no raise was necessary. I bet you they couldnt find anyone to refinance (at a half decent rate) without a raise.
