I suspect that a lot of high techs have tended to think of themselves as being on the side of the angels in the past and were rudely shocked when they actually started to do some of these calculations as carbon neutrality became more important. There has been an unseemly scramble on lots of elements of this question recently (particularly amongst the big players) and I think these guys are determined to get well ahead of the game so they are positioned before the pressure really comes on for disclosure of carbon footprints (whether mandatory or by convention amongst good corporate citizens).
