You get a quote and it has some of the products itemised, but they are extremely deceptive in that you have to pay an administration fee. . . that's a compulsory given, but what they do is, in the administration fee they add in items that are not compulsory. So there are costs within the admin fee that are not compulsory and not itemised. . . you are never actually given information they are not compulsory. In the very very fine print at the end of the very very long quote they have a statement like "included in the administration fee is a vehicle management program fee. . . but they do not state you can opt out. There is no actual way of opting out except to contact them and complain. So most people would read the quote and think, right, I either agree and sign or not take a novated lease at all.

My last vehicle lease was with Leaseplan - some 10 years ago, but the experience you describe is similar to my own - the default coverage is not easily altered, and not necessarily transparent. Given this, it seems to me that what you describe has been fairly common Industry practise.
