re " I'm understanding more and more why many will only invest in blue chip stocks."....mate, you can come undone in the blue chips as easily as you can in penny dreadfulls.....be careful. Look at Newcrest, BHP, Rio, in recent times.
Got a mate who was big in RIO in his super fund, which was about $150 pre GFC1. It fell to $124, and he saw a bargain....he put in $600,000 at that price....and watched it fall to $45 or whatever. How do you reckon he felt? The good news is that his wrists have healed and the stitches have been out for some time. ( ).
Nothing is safe at the moment.

Re Gold, who knows really where it will go? Some are still predicting a fall to $900 odd/oz.....

Maybe double what it is now? Look how liquid the share is......not a hell of a lot of interest there, eh? How long do you reckon it would take them to get to production? 10 years? 20 years? Look how long it took to get Posse up and running there ? And that was about as simple a mining operation as you can get. I'm a bit nervous about Brazil..... even the US has stated their athletes may not attend the Games a/c the virus. A failure of the Olympics would hurt them badly. They may just decide to screw foreign companies for some badly needed cash.

I'll keep on selling because I'm running out of time and I have to raise a stake to try a few trades to raise some badly needed cash. If I get it wrong and stuff up, it will at least give them a few laughs. But I have to try. Cant rely on the Tooth Fairy or Father Xmas any longer.
