As a LTH I thought it was a great announcement. I know a lot were hoping for MOU2, but in time.
Now back to the announcement, I did a bit of digging, not sure if this is the right Tim Thornton,
Appears to be a fellow GE worker. Works as IT director for GE Money it seems (MF is also a connection). If it is him, definitely been in the game for a while.
Other Tim I found is this guy. Software developer but could just be a coinkidink.
