Check this out (pretty widely accepted study, you'll see the same results on various studies), there is not a material difference of portfolio risk reduction going from 10 stocks to 20 stocks and beyond.
Then the argument is, am i holding stocks numbered 10-20 based on diversification or because i really like these stocks. So 10-12 stocks could actually be the optimal amount. Risk does not equal volatility, so the fund is more volatile, but only moderately more risky.
Takes a bit more nerve to see concentrated strategy through. But that's a battle you have to win in your head.
