You clearly know about old school networking technology, but your way off in your understanding of MVE. MVE is an SD-WAN capability that operates at OSI Layer 7 using the internet as its transport medium, very similar to IPSec site-to-site. MVE presents the Megaport eco-system to the internet by allowing encrypted SD-WAN connections from SD-WAN appliances located at Offices, Datacentre, Home Offices or anywhere else on the internet.
The old school way of delivering MPLS to provide connectivity between Offices and Datacentres, with internet breakout at the Datacentre, is now obsolete with organisations adoption of public cloud platforms and delivering internet native services. In fact, the recommendation from Microsoft for Office 365 consumption is to have your internet breakout at the office/branch edge.
But if the recommendation is for local internet breakout, how do I my users access my internally published apps at the Datacentre???....INSERT SD-WAN to carry out routing decisions at layer 7 to send traffic out the internet or into the encrypted SD-WAN tunnels to the Datacentre, MVE or SD-WAN appliance deployed in my public cloud platform.
After all, its way cheaper to have internet breakout at the office than MPLS. Yes you loose the ability for QOS, but real time applications like MS Teams, Zoom...etc are not as susceptible to latency and jitter as the legacy apps. Personally, I would still use MPLS for critical services though.
But what about the proxy server for content filtering and threat protection??? ......INSERT Zscaler, Forcepoint, Cisco Umbrella...etc.
If SD-WAN provides encryption and operates at layer 7, what about header impact on the internets default MTU of 1500 bytes??? ......INSERT Path MTU Discovery that adjusts the payload size to accommodate for the additional header overhead required by SD-WAN and encryption.

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/75248I believe MVE is a great complimentary service for Megaport, but I feel the uptake will slow... perhaps similar to Megaport Cloud Router. I imagine most organisations would just deploy SD-WAN appliances directly in their cloud platform rather than use MVE.
