I saw this claim of fake downloads a while ago, forgot to respond. A incredibly serious allegation based on the sole fact that it may be possible to do. I think company lawyers would have a field day with this guy, if he put that out on a more high profile site.
Some Reddit reviews vs 250M downloads. I would only get worried if I saw 30K+ complaints. Of course it can be misused, like any technology. You don't have to download it, if you feel you are being stalked.
