Should they be using ROE as a hurdle. This would imply that prior to FY22 anything with a positive ROACE would do. Does this explain why our former MD (a brilliant finance man) got it so wrong.
I understand you have a masters in finance, which I imagine would be invaluable when evaluating the performance, or providing decision making data to management of billion dollar companies, but decision making in companies the size of Otto needs to be a little more organic. I think this is the root of your frustration - trying to fit small co strategy into what is essentially one cog of a bigger machine.
