Reading through it, seems RFF hit bad timing on all the latest investments.
1. Bought the land and developed macadamia plantation just as the price of macadamias fell.
2. Borrowed for the initial investments just as interest rates rose.
3. Also saw cattle prices falling even though they aren't directly exposed to it (cattle owners can only pay up for land when cattle prices are high).
But as they point out, ag land rarely has more than one bad year in a row. Just need to wait it out.
