This is an interesting point, and will always be a challenge with any SaaS rollout. I would assume any pilot done at reasonable scale will require the system and process changes mentioned here. If so, two points come to mind:

1. the change required can’t be too onerous, or the pilots wouldn’t be viable
2. a common rollout approach is to pilot then go Big Bang once the pilot has proved the value. Once an organisation has identified the value exists, the push will be on to deliver as much of the value as early as possible

a third point… if there’s any non-trivial change required for a trial, the buyer must have a decent amount of conviction that:
a) the product will work
b) the product meets an unmet need
c) the product will be commercially viable
d) the product can be more broadly rolled out
e) the vendor meets their DD requirements

They’re not bothering otherwise.
