You need to learn and understand:
1. Nickel is only used in the cathodes
2. There are a number of different cathode chemistries, the main ones being NMC, NMA, and LFP
3. NMC and NMA both contain Ni and theNi content in both of these has INCREASED, e.g. for NMC it has gone from 6-2-2 to 8-1-1 i.e. Ni contents increased from 60% to 80% of the cathode and there are newer chemistries that use 90% to provide even higher energy density.
4, LFP has no Ni but due to the lower energy content of this chemistry, LFP batteries are used only where range is not important and is compensated by lower EV price.
The number of EVs using NMx cathodes is growing at a very fast rate.
The next technology is likely to use solid state Li batteries which still use Ni and also more Li.
Ni demand continues to grow at a very high rate as does Li demand.
