Something that many probably haven't given much thought to but is actually quiet a big deal is the rainfall and climate in the region. So they get BUGGAR all rain! Negative in one aspect will be that they will likely need a reverse osmosis plant and pump from the ocean which will incur a cost. The positives of this situation however far out way this problem. Although i have a very limited experience as an enviro, i can point out the savings. Limited issues with erosion, limited concern with ground water impacts, very simple to contain water entering the site so as not to pollute the surrounding environment, power and monitoring required to control the water on site would be greatly reduced compared to a large proportion of other mines. For example Kalgoorlie has an average rainfall of 271mm and that's pretty dry for Aussie standards Copiapo has an average of 31mm! Another feather in the hat for TSO IMO. Maybe just my own personal experience so if you've got confirming or conflicting views would be good to hear about it.
