The problem with carting Radionuclides back and forth in sealed containers is that there may be potential for Radon Gas build up during the trip which will be released upon opening the container, it all comes down to what the concentrations are ~ which nobody seems to want to divulge !
Everybody quotes column 4 of Table 2 ( Bq/g^1 Rate of emission) but conveniently fail to show their compliance with column 5 (Total Bq ^4)
Your Lynas Management certainly did not have it sorted ! After being repeatedly told that they could not dump Toxic waste in Malaysia they came up with the Kalgoorlie solution, only to be told that neither could they dump their Radionuclides at Yari Rd, where they first wanted to, as it was too close to an Aboriginal settlement. Fine corporate citizens NOT ! So now they have to take it back to where it belongs, the Mine Site from where it came.
As for being shut down on the LYC page, fairly pathetic when they block posters that they don't agree with ~ but you can find my response to 'Sheads blatant misinformation on the PM8 page. And just quietly, I suspect that I actually do know a lot more about mining and waste disposal than Amanda, she may be a Corporate manager but I am also a Mining Engineer
As I repeatedly say there is nothing wrong with dumping the waste on the Mine Site from where it originated, so why create an unnecessary problem ?
