Treat any predictions from high profile analysts with at least as much scepticism as you would give a Hot Copper post. They are even more often dishonest and pushing an agenda, and they do a better job of looking convincing. Goldman Sachs provided one of the best examples you could possibly hope for, but there is no shortage of examples to look at.
It is entirely possible that 2023 will be a very nasty year for global economics, and absolutely, precious metals will do well in that scenario, but either way lithium should fare quite well. Precious metals should be relatively safe in that they won't completely crash next year, but they may well come down. They also won't rise in the same way lithium did in 2022.
People aren't going to stop buying cars. The majority of cars being sold are still ICE vehicles, and the percentage of EVs is still rapidly increasing at this stage. For the next couple of years, a struggling economy is going to harm lithium supply more than demand, and other than in the very short term it's actually fantastic for the outlook of lithium prices - lithium consumption (EV production and other lithium-using products from phones and laptops to power tools to power grid storage etc etc) can be increased more quickly than production can, so quashing development of new production now is going to boost prices for the next few years, especially when the economy recovers and all those factories are wanting to put more lithium into more batteries. But, even in the short term, we're at such an early part of the EV ramp up curve that demand will continue to heavily increase regardless of economic conditions.
I'd never suggest blindly believing anything from analysts. If you can't understand and evaluate what they're saying, you shouldn't be listening to them. None of them are trying to look after you, they are trying to look after themselves, and a lot of the time they serve themselves best by hurting you. Use your own brain, don't delegate that sort of responsibility to groups which don't care about you.
