I lived through thatcher coming in and dealing with an economy on the verge of collaspse announcing the end of coal mining. not popular and we had strikes and the infamous miners strikes.

I can't help but think here in Australia that politicians are focused more on votes and constituencies heavily dependent on coal and have somehow factored this into their calculus over the benefits of transitioning the economy to lithium and the supporting high tech industries and jobs.

I think Boris Johnston gets it as well as many other conservative leaders around the world. trump didn't as he was a coal and gas man.

I look at other countries that have amazing models. UAE has a sovereign wealth fund where all the money made from oil and gas is invested in the long term for the country. Norway did the same. nothing wrong with taxing, just depends on what the money is spent on.
