    Thats very good information.
    "SUMMARY"
"The northern regions – Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Qinghai and Gansu – enjoy cost advantages because they use low-cost coal-fueled electricity, have easier access to coke and have more efficient transport logistics, which are essential for the production of ferro-alloys products, including silico-manganese, ferro-silicon and ferro-chrome.
“Take the production cost of silicon-manganese. In Inner Mongolia, the cost is 6,283 yuan ($881.50) per tonne, while the cost in Guangxi (in southern China) is 7,138 yuan per tonne,” Shi said. “In other words, Inner Mongolian producers can earn a margin of 200-300 yuan per tonne with an ex-works price of 6,500-6,600 yuan per tonne, while Guangxi suffers with losses of 500-600 yuan per tonne.”

So the SiMn cost in northern region is 6,283 yuan/tonne (US$881.50)
    The Southern region is 7,138 yuan/tonne ( US$993.04/tonne)
This doesn't include the 20% export tariff.
    Northern group makes 200-300 yuan/tonne ie ( US$28 to $42/t)
    Southern group loses 500 -600yuan/tonne ie ( US$60 to $78/tonne loss /t)

The entire alloy market looks rather weak, I'm starting to think that OMH's suggestion that SiMn is more profitable than FeSi due to extra tonnes of SiMn produced v SiMn and FeMn / furnace is incorrect. At current prices the profit of OMH FeSi production/furnace will outweigh the Mn alloy / furnace. OMH management base their reasoning on past performance, but is this always true?
This will be a good question to put at the next webinar.
I always thought converting an existing FeSi furnace to an Mn alloy was foolish, downtime and loss of profit and the conversion cost has never made much sense to me. The higher export tariff for FeSi has always put an extra few dollars in OMH's pocket.
Now with LMG planning to produce magnesium in Sarawak, OMH will now need to add another 5 x FeSi furnaces just to supply LMG when they produce 100,000 tonnes of Mg.

“To produce one tonne of magnesium requires 1.05 tonnes of ferro-silicon,”
