The reasons that the numbers of EV's are going up are that the governments of the world are buying them to support their own banter. Just check out the Qld Gov rego plates on the roads that are attached to public service EV cars.
The other reason is that the Chinese Government has made EV's compulsory buying for any one in China wanting a new car.
Also the subsidies in some cases can be more than the cost of the car to produce allowing for some pretty good deals to be had.
This of course is unsustainable long term.
In Western countries the sales figures are horrendous and getting worse.
