I'm in my second year investing and feel a little the same with this one. For what it's worth my paper losses are 4 times yours and I think I'll hang on too.
I think you're right about riding speculative stocks too long - am trying to discipline myself to take profits when they're there. The good day traders plan their exits and if it still climbs for a while after they sell, who cares so long as they make a profit.
