Let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

The Vicinity trial consists of 18 panels which while I don't know the surface area of would be lucky to be 10m2. You can see the images on the live trial site. The release states that 30w/m2 is their goal and they expected around 1mwh to be produced annually. (30w*10hrs a day*365 days*10m2= ~1mwh)

For whatever reason the trial site is showing 0s for energy produced when I look at it now but I'm sure when I looked at it before it said 1750kwh in the right hand column which I presume it's total energy produced since inception nearly two years ago. (That being said I also thought I saw that the 30 day average was .53kwh which does not add up to 1750kwh in two years).

So it's producing exactly as much as forecast, around 1mwh/year. 1.75mw at 30c a kw is about $500 for the life of the trial so far. Not sheep stations but you can see how it could scale and become very cost effective as well as environmentally friendly. Key of course is the cost difference between building with CPV tech and normal glass.

The tech will get better too. This trial is two years old now and there will be efficiency gains. For example solar cells are always improving and more testing can be done on the type of glass and the film used.

We're still taking baby steps but there is a lot in the pipeline. There will be a big fish before long and remember Australia is so very backwards with adoption of renewables.
