The latest Truck Industry Council TMARK data reveals 3650 new trucks and van were registered in Australia in the month of November, the figure up 15 per cent from the same month last year and up 18.5% from November of 2019, before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The monthly tally sees the year-to-date figure swell to 37,876 new vehicles, which is up 22.2% over the previous corresponding period and up 9.1% from the first 11 months of 2019.

Breaking the data down into the major segments, registrations of new heavy-duty trucks grew by 1316 units in November (up 27.5% over November 2020), giving a year-to-date figure of 11,733 units. That’s 23.9% more than at the same time last year.

The medium-duty segment also remains buoyant. A total of 688 new medium-duty trucks were registered in November (up 22.4%), while the yearly tally so far of 6656 units is up 12.2% over the previous corresponding period.

Spurred on by the growth of e-commerce and last-mile delivery, the light-duty segment is also flying high. The 1296 new light-duty trucks registered in November represents growth of 27.7% over the same month last year, while the year-to-date figure of 13,151 equates with growth of 32.2%.
