If you want to get some insight into China's geo political mindset, there was a very interesting documentary on the ABC last night about how the Chinese gov currently exert control over the vast majority of Cobalt being mined and exported out of the Congo. This happens largely by bribing local police to allow them to operate mines which place local Congalese workers in hideous conditions for nothing other than the sole benefit of the Chinese economy.

Now, to think that Australia and other western nations are without blame for similar issues in the past, especially with regards to mineral extraction in other countries (and even in our own backyard, Rio Tinto, looking at you!) is a long bow. After all, the blood diamond issue has been well publicised.

To think, however, that the CCP isn't absolutely just as (or even more so) ruthless and hellbent on using any non-scrupulous method it can to advantage itself financially, especially via exploitation of third world nations is to say you've got your head in the sand.
