In view of recent events, I now believe the Kawasaki operation is doomed. Imo it won't happen because CCS is increasingly becoming something the community will not accept with green hydrogen/lithium rapidly gaining baseload credibility. If it got anywhere near happening, the resulting protests would close it down pronto imo. People like Andrew Forrest have enormous sway in what happens in the big end of town. Imo he will make sure CCS doesn't happen under Bass Strait (or anywhere in Australia). Read this article below if in any doubt.

Forrest recently asked - in words to the effect of - "
how do we know it won't leak?", referring to the CCS locations Kawasaki is looking at under Bass Strait (I can't find the link ATM). And he's correct. Imo it won't be long & the Kawasaki proposition will be history in its current form.
The Japanese (Koreans are in a similar situation) have almost no options for wind/solar, so imo they threw caution to the wind & in desperation went down the current hydrogen CCS route. What other LT options do they have?
Kawasaki have already recently proven hydrogen can be transported overseas - that imo will be their LV legacy
unless...."somehow" they can export hydrogen without CCS. Enter economic Coldry. Imo without Coldry, Kawasaki (& almost anything LV lignite derived) is doomed. They are obviously using traditional heat & squeeze to dry the lignite - not a great innovative kick off to begin with.
Another nail in CCS will likely be LAVO tech. One of ECT'S consortium partners - PAG is the cornerstone investor in LAVO. LAVO has recently been granted millions of $ by the NSW & QLD govts for its hydrogen storage tech. Imo LAVO is going to be a massive success story.
If Coldry is proven economic in the coming weeks -
with no need of CCS as ECT state (by sequestering carbon in soils via char)....then imo the LV lignite suddenly has a very bright future. All imo
