Because we have a tax and spend (and nationalise the gas companies and anyone else they choose!) Labor/Greens government in Canberra, fleet and household car sales may do very nicely there in 2023. There is no indication Labor is prepared to take hard decisions and dramatically reduce the numbers of bureaurcrats.
Does APE mainly sell personal motor vehicles to upper middle and upper class Australians? They won't be immune from interest rate rises and spending pressures, but many may have substantial savings buffers. They aren't in the c.45 per cent of us who allegedly have less than $1000 in any form of savings, a statistic repeated every so often by the media.
I agree though that anyone can defer, or abandon, a new car purchase. That wouldn't be good for APE.
Maybe this will see easyauto123 becoming even more important, as it sells second hand vehicles?
