Latest alloy prices CIF Japan 15th Feb 23. No sales of Chinese silico manganese to Japan, the export tax of 20% takes China out as an exporter.

"Although silicomanganese price in China fluctuated in the futures market, the spot price is comparatively stable. The inventory volume of the imported manganese ore maintains an upward trend, and the retail price still maintained a gradual upward trend, though a momentum of the upward trend weakened. They strongly offset the decline of the semicoke price. The recent price of 6517 product from Inner Mongolia was CNY7,350 to CNY7,450/ton, up by CNY50 from the end of January. It remained the same price level as the mainstream price at the end of January. The contract was not concluded for Japan at this time, either.

In response to the continuous price increase of the imported manganese ore, Indian silicomanganese producers aggressively raised offer prices. Although users and traders disliked purchasing products at higher prices, the recent contract price increased slightly.

Although the demand for spot products was weak in the domestic Japanese market before the end of the fiscal year, the contract prices of Indian products were up by US$20 to US$30 from the end of January.

In terms of Malaysian silicomanganese, OM Sarawak (OM) offered the spot products for March shipment. The price was up by US$50 from the previous time (February shipment), largely affected by India’s price increase."
