My BS detector has just sparked up big-time...

According to their carbon product data sheet, Hycamite isn't yet producing a single tonne of carbon a year out of their test plant, and hasn't been through product certification... "This substance is produced at less than one tonne per year and therefore does not require REACH registration"

But, in this industry (puff) piece from October 2022 (p.29), it was claimed that Hycamite is about to start building a 2,000 tonne H2 / 6,000 tonne carbon plant by year-end... Incredibly, it implies a straight leap to more than 6,000x current capacity...

This plant will have an annual nominal capacity of 2,000 tons of clean hydrogen, comparable to a 20 MW electrolyser with 5,500 hrs annual operation. Yet, the power consumption of the site will be around 2.6 MW, approx. 13% of the same-capacity electrolyser. Similarly, the plant can produce 6,000 tons of solid carbon. As the plant will use biogas as feedstock, the plant will act as a carbon sink, almost 22,000 t of CO2 are stored when only the hydrogen use is counted for.

Looking a bit further, a comment from an ABB guy working with Hycamite suggests a more modest approach - scaling the plant up, as per normal:

“Our first delivery, the ABB 800xA automation platform, integrates the facility’s systems and applications, which increases the facility’s energy efficiency and usability, and creates the conditions for scaling the equipment to systems of different sizes.”

Well, they're a private company, so they can say what they like, but a lot of it sounds wildly ahead of itself and vague.

Competition is heating up all the same. Honestly, how much longer, Hazer??
