For those who can’t read small white letters on dark green background, here is an explanation of that flow chart. First you take brine, and run it through Plix (registered tradename), so that some of it drips down into your bucket while some of it spins away through the garbage disposal. In the bucket it is exposed to the elution solution, and then it joins the rest of the brine that didn’t make it into the bucket but didn’t go through the disposal. Some of what you have goes back into the cycle again, while some of it comes out as Lithium Chloride (must have used some salt) or Lithium Sulfate (must have used some sulfuric acid). Either of those gets turned into Lithium Carbonate and from there it’s just a short hop to Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate.

We’re not quite sure what Plix is, but the government is giving us $1 million to figure it out, as long as we spend that much too.
