To launch a spacecraft out of Earth's atmosphere, depending on the rocket system, it can take hundreds of thousands of gallons of liquid hydrogen, with the Space Launch System (SLS) requiring around 700,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen combined for a single launch; this is used to fuel the rocket's engines during the critical launch phase.
