Opinion# Expertise - Dunning-Kruger, anyone?

Appreciate your passion, but highlighting words and laughing off explanations doesn’t make your take more accurate — it just makes it louder.

You asked whether the US patent expired. Yes, the original OncoSil™ platform’s core US patent expired in 2022, as disclosed. There’s a potential extension to 2027, and more importantly, the company has already filed new patents for the next-gen platform, OncoCal™, which they’ve openly said is their long-term strategy. You’re trying to catch people out on facts that have already been clarified — if you’re going to challenge something, at least bring something new to the table.

As for the FDA HDE — yes, it was submitted in 2020, and yes, it’s now 2025. But pretending the pandemic didn’t create a knock-on effect for complex submissions is just naive. These aren’t rubber-stamped approvals. A radioactive implant isn’t going through the same queue as a wearable or a diagnostic app.

Supplementary data requests, changes to trial design, internal resourcing at the FDA — all of that adds time. It’s not ideal, but it’s also not unheard of. Anyone familiar with the regulatory process knows these timelines can stretch, especially for smaller players without the luxury of a billion-dollar FDA team.

And on the topic of “serious investors” — when a fund manager takes an 8–10% position in a biotech trading under 1 cent, that’s not a casual punt. That’s exposure. In a stock with limited liquidity, they can’t just hit the sell button and walk away. That adds risk. That stretches their mandate. And it highlights conviction — not hype. They’ve done the work. Everyone’s entitled to an opinion. But having one doesn’t make you an expert. Some are built on research, context, and real sector experience. Others are just noise.
